THE JOCKEY CLUB’S CHARITIES
Racing Welfare is The Jockey Club's charity, offering help and support to all racing's workforce and their dependents. In addition, we work with two Charity partners who are doing great things at the heart of communities across the UK.
We gift Box4Kids the use of corporate hospitality boxes for seriously ill-children and their loved ones to enjoy their events.
And we are also working with Alzheimer's Society to raise funds and awareness for the support, care and research it carries out.
The Jockey Club holds a number of events throughout the year to support its partner charities. To contribute now you can donate £5 by texting the word FIVE to 70099, with all proceeds split between Racing Welfare and Alzheimer's Society.
RACING WELFARE
Racing Welfare offers professional guidance and support through a nationwide network of regional welfare officers to the unseen army of dedicated staff who work in the horse racing industry.
Their work includes providing 150 quality homes for both the elderly and those entering racing and an award-winning 24/7 helpline.
Racing Welfare supports those injured or disabled with retraining and counselling, the elderly through days out and activities as well as those entering the industry with life skill programmes. The only charity to support everyone who works in racing, Racing Welfare has seen a huge increase in demand for their services and rely on charitable giving to be able to continue their work.
Alzheimer's society
Alzheimer’s Society, the UK’s leading dementia charity, was announced as the Official Charity Partner of The Jockey Club in October 2019. The two year partnership will help Alzheimer’s Society to raise funds and awareness for the support, care and research it carries out.
The charity will help raise awareness of its large network of local support services for people with dementia and their carers to Jockey Club colleagues and customers, offering advice and support on all aspects of dementia.
Alzheimer’s Society will also work with The Jockey Club to become more dementia friendly, including rolling out its Dementia Friends programme, which is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia, across the group. With more than three million Dementia Friends already and over 400 dementia friendly communities, the programme is transforming the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition.
Founded in 1979, Alzheimer’s Society supports the 850,000 people living with dementia and the 670,000 people caring for them, and is the only UK charity campaigning for change, funds research to find a cure and improve care and supports people living with dementia today.
The decision to work with Alzheimer’s Society for the next two years was made after The Jockey Club’s employees were surveyed for recommendations, with a number of nationwide and regional charities then invited to discuss the opportunity to become the Group-wide charity partner.
BOX4KIDS
Box4Kids is an initiative of the Barrie Wells Trust which arranges for ill children to experience a day out at sporting and entertainment venues across the UK.
Private hospitality boxes at Jockey Club Racecourses are offered to Box4Kids for free, ensuring ill children, along with their parents and carers, can enjoy a VIP day out at the races.
The Jockey Club provides boxes at racedays across the country and its 15 racecourses.
